Tour Overview

This is a special charter train journey accompanied by Lan Ping Fang, a Taiwanese nature guide actively working in Shiretoko. While traveling together by train, she will share stories and insights about the winter Kushiro Wetlands and the beauty of drift ice.The route from Kushiro to Mashu passes through rich wildlife areas, offering the chance to spot Ezo deer, red-crowned cranes, Steller’s sea eagles, and even Hokkaido red foxes.After arriving at Mashu Station, a private vehicle will take you to visit Lake Mashu First Observatory and Mount Iozan (Sulfur Mountain).Between Shari and Abashiri, the railway runs alongside the Sea of Okhotsk, where you may be able to see the magnificent drift ice from the train window. As Lan is also an experienced drift ice walk guide, she will continue sharing her expertise after arrival in Abashiri, joining you on board the drift ice sightseeing icebreaker Aurora to explain the wonders of drift ice.On board the train, you will also enjoy handpicked local foods recommended by the guide, adding a personal and authentic touch to the journey.
